Faeries

  

   Fairy Tales is a handcrafted artist's book that combines layered paper engineering, die-cut illustration, and expressive   

   typography to create an immersive woodland environment. Fairies, flowers, unicorns, and botanical forms emerge from 

   successive layers of paper, transforming each opening into a small theatrical stage where text and imagery become inseparable.

   Rather than illustrating a single narrative, the book presents a collection of visual moments inspired by the timeless language of 

   fairy tales. Carefully selected quotations appear throughout the work, surrounded by layered silhouettes that encourage the 

   viewer to slow down and explore each composition. Positive and negative space, color, and light work together to create depth, 

   allowing the imagery to shift as the book is viewed from different angles.

   The restrained palette of vibrant pinks, soft lavenders, and delicate paper-cut forms reinforces a sense of enchantment while 

   maintaining a contemporary graphic aesthetic. Every spread balances precision with playfulness, inviting discovery through both

    close observation and physical interaction.

   Both sculptural object and artist's book, Fairy Tales celebrates the enduring power of stories to awaken curiosity, encourage 

   imagination, and remind us that wonder often resides in the smallest details.

   

   Artist Statement

   Fairy Tales was inspired by my daughter when she was two years old, a time when the world still held endless possibilities. She 

   believed completely in fairies and unicorns, and when she turned three, she wanted nothing more than a fairy-themed birthday 

   celebration. Watching her experience the world with such unquestioning wonder reminded me how naturally children embrace 

   mystery, imagination, and the impossible.

   As adults, we often describe those beliefs as things we eventually outgrow. I have never been certain that we should.

   This artist's book was created as a keepsake of that fleeting season of childhood—a way of preserving not simply memories, but 

   a way of seeing. Layered paper silhouettes, woodland forms, and quotations from classic literature create a quiet space where 

   imagination is welcomed rather than explained. The work does not ask whether fairies or unicorns exist. Instead, it asks what 

   becomes possible when we allow ourselves to believe that wonder still has a place in our lives.

   Creating the book also returned me to my own childhood, when stories blurred effortlessly into reality and imagination was not 

   separate from everyday life. In revisiting those memories through paper and light, I found that the distance between generations 

   is often bridged by shared stories. What enchanted me as a child later enchanted my daughter, and perhaps one day this book 

   will remind her of that time if life ever feels too hurried or too ordinary.

   For me, Fairy Tales is an invitation to pause, to remember, and to rediscover the quiet magic that often survives just beneath the 

   surface of adulthood. Some things are not meant to be proven. They are simply meant to be believed, if only for a little while.
